The MLB winter market is hotter than ever with moves that have shaken up the major leagues ahead of the 2026 season and one of the teams that wants to continue to be dominant is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have already signed closer Edwin Diaz from the New York Mets.

However, they are now cooking up a move that would put them back in the hunt for a third consecutive World Series title, Tarik Skubal, one of the best arms in the league who had a tremendous performance with the Detroit Tigers.

The Dodgers already have one of the best starting pitching rotations with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani and soon Roki Sasaki, who showed their quality last postseason by giving quality starts that allowed them to be champions of the National League.

Sources confirm serious negotiations between Dodgers and Tigers for Tarik Skubal

What began as a rumor a couple of days ago has now gained momentum when a KTLA reporter claimed that Los Angeles and Detroit had seriously discussed a trade for Skubal, even stating that it is “very advanced”. It was later Bob Nightengale of USA Today who backed up that information:

They surprised teams by engaging in serious talks and were intrigued by the Dodgers’ possible package of prospects

In addition, the Tigers’ president of baseball operations, Scott Harris, stated that he does not believe in “untouchables” within the organization and is open to “exploring any option that may or may not have a future”, further fueling rumors of a possible departure of his best arm.

Why is Tarik Skubal the most sought-after name on the market and how does he fit with the Dodgers?

Tarik Skubal has become one of the best pitchers in all of Major League Baseball with three consecutive seasons posting an ERA below 2.80 and in 2025 he managed to accumulate 241 strikeouts with just 33 walks, demonstrating great control in all his pitches and who would complement a dominant rotation like the Dodgers.

Now the main challenge for Detroit is that its pitcher becomes a free agent at the end of the 2026 season, which limits its value in the market. However, the Dodgers have the combination of young pitchers, promising prospects or pieces that can be of immediate value to a franchise that seems unable to get its hands on the solution to retain one of the best pitchers like Skubal.
