Before the market closes, the Dodgers want to tie up a pitcher. Pitching is the team’s main goal in its reinforcement this offseason. Of the many names that have been mentioned as a possibility to join the franchise, one more is added to the list. It is Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins.

Alcantara did not have a good season in 2025. The Marlins finished third in the National League East. He posted a 5.36 ERA in 174.2 innings. Despite these numbers, the Dodgers organization is considering him for their starting rotation. He is a player they like for that role.

If they go for him, the Dodgers can absorb $17.3 million annually until 2026 with a club option of $21 million for 2027. It’s a figure that fits into Los Angeles’ budget to sign, especially when it comes to a pitcher

The franchise yearns for the three-peat. To do so, it requires rotations that guarantee security and consistency in the bullpen. One of those strong cards would be Alcantara, who is in the coaching staff’s sights as a starter.

Why are they interested in Alcantara?

One detail the Dodgers appreciate is his mentality. After missing the entire 2024 season after undergoing elbow surgery, Alcantara returned to the mound with a 3.70 ERA in 10 starts after the trade deadline.

This showed that his ability to adjust and compete at an elite level is optimal when he is healthy and in good condition. There were doubts about the late and negative effects of the operation, which did not appear, because his speed remained intact during 2025, averaging 97.5 mph with his fastball. He is ready to be a starter with Los Angeles.

What do the Marlins get?

Zyhir Hope, Eduardo Quintero, Mike Sirota and Alex Freeland would be offered to Miami as part of the trade for Sandy Alcantara. The Dodgers would keep Josue De Paula, their franchise prospect ranked No. 12 overall, on the team

Hope and Quintero are players with the elite offensive potential profile that Miami requires in its current rebuilding process. Sirota and Freeland are considerable options to balance the rotations planned by the Marlins for next season.

This agreement is to the liking of the Marlins franchise. It is an agreement that benefits both organizations according to their objectives. It would be a matter of sitting down to talk with Alcantara so that he simply signs the contract.
