Sean McDermott exited the Buffalo Bills through the back door after failing to lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance and continuing to squander the immense talent the roster possessed through 2025.
Following several turbulent weeks within the franchise, a resolution has finally been reached. The new head coach of the Bills will be Joe Brady.

A monumental challenge now lies ahead for Brady: guiding the Buffalo Bills toward a definitive opportunity to secure the championship title that has eluded them in recent years. This past season appeared to be their premier opening, especially with Patrick Mahomes, Allen’s perennial nemesis, sidelined due to injury; however, that opportunity ultimately vanished.
Joe Brady and Josh Allen have established a strong working relationship, ensuring a seamless transition as Brady assumes full command of the roster. At 36 years of age, the young offensive coordinator was interviewed immediately following the vacancy created by Sean McDermott’s departure. Brady had spent the previous two years directing the Bills’ offense, having stepped into the role following Ken Dorsey’s exit in mid-2023.
His tenure with the organization began as quarterbacks coach from 2021 to 2022. Before joining Buffalo, Brady served a two-season stint as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
It is worth noting that Sean McDermott was dismissed following the Bills’ defeat against the Denver Broncos. Owner Terry Pegula decided to part ways with the coach who stood as the second-longest-tenured in franchise history, trailing only the legendary Marv Levy.
My decision to bring in a new coach was based on the results of our game in Denver,” Pegula said. “I did not fire Coach based on a bad officiating decision. If I can take you into that locker room, I felt like we hit the proverbial playoff wall year after year – 13 seconds, missed field goal, the catch. So, I just sensed in that locker room, like, where do we go from here with what we have? And that was the basis for my decision.
Following McDermott’s exit, General Manager Brandon Beane was promoted to Team President and subsequently spearheaded the search for the new head coach.
With Joe Brady’s appointment, Josh Allen gains a vital ally in the head coaching role. The duo possesses an intimate understanding of the requirements necessary for postseason effectiveness. Two young talents now sit at the helm of this historic franchise, aiming to transform the Bills into perennial and formidable Super Bowl contenders. Brady’s primary objective will be to retain the team’s elite talent and convince the locker room that their championship window remains wide open.
