Taylor Swift returned this Monday to Arrowhead Stadium to accompany Travis Kelce at the Kansas City Chiefs‘ season opener. The singer appeared in the suite during the first quarter of the game against the Denver Broncos, and she did so alongside Tom Cruise, who was also in attendance. The NFL shared an image of both of them following the game.
The broadcast cameras captured Swift and Cruise talking. Since there was no audio of the conversation, lip reader Nicola Hickling offered the Irish Star her interpretation of several fragments. According to Hickling, the clearest phrase she could identify from the actor was: “You may not know it, but you have a job to do.”

Hickling maintains that Swift began by talking about the audience and that Cruise responded with part of the dialogue that she could not decipher. Then, according to her interpretation, the actor would have said to the singer: “You may not know it, but you do have a job”. Swift would have set down the glass she was holding, nodded, and replied “right”.
The lip reader also identified another phrase she attributes to Cruise: “I told her to stick to one and that it”s the last time”. However, several seconds of the conversation could not be clearly interpreted.
The encounter between Swift and Cruise took place on a particularly significant night for the singer. It was her first appearance at a Chiefs game since her wedding to Kelce, held on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. Cruise was among the guests at the ceremony, according to Associated Press coverage.
Swift skipped the Emmys to accompany Kelce
Swift was also far from Los Angeles while the Emmys were taking place. The Eras Tour: The Final Show had received five nominations, but the singer did not attend the ceremony. She did appear in a pre-recorded segment of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit alongside Mariska Hargitay, in a scene that played with expectations about her possible presence at the awards.
In Kansas City, meanwhile, Kelce had a good season opener.
The Chiefs defeated the Broncos 31-10, and the tight end finished with three receptions for 71 yards. One of them, a 59-yard catch in the third quarter, allowed him to surpass Jason Witten and move into second place in NFL history in receiving yards among tight ends, with 13,073.
