The rivalry between Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis began in 2024 with an attack by Tank in which he questioned his greatness, and there were new episodes throughout 2025, but in a recent public appearance, Bud gave signs of having the intention to stop the cross messages, although he maintains his position on the controversial fight against Lamont Roach Jr.
The bickering has had a couple of more intense episodes in 2025, after in January, Terence mocked Gervonta because he was not invited to the The Ring Magazine awards gala, while in early March, Crawford accused Davis of being a cheater after his fight against Lamont Roach Jr.Terence Crawford was a guest on NFL star Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay, and during three hours of conversation, the rivalry with Gervonta Davis could not be missed: “Gervonta said you needed the money.”
Terence Crawford’s surprising response about Gervonta Davis
Sharpe’s questioning responds to the start of the aforementioned rivalry in which Gervonta Davis launched an attack on Terence Crawford: “They think he’s looking for greatness… but he’s not, that’s what he has to do to make decent money,” but Bud didn’t get caught up and responded calmly to the questioning.
“I’m a boxer, he’s a boxer, you’re a boxer. We all need the money,” Crawford said, but Sharpe was looking to fire him up and asked if he would be willing to face Davis if he moves up to 154 pounds, but Bud chose to remain calm and even take the suggestion with humor: “I wish him all the best.”
But just when it seemed that there was no intention of getting into controversy, Crawford accepted to get involved in one of his most recent disputes and reiterated his opinion about Gervonta’s knee that should have caused a defeat against Lamont Roach
“I guess that’s part of the new, you know what I mean, era of boxing. I’m as confused as you are. I said, ‘Huh?’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s crazy,'” Crawford said, adding that in his opinion Gervonta would not have won without the knockdown: “I thought it was a close fight. But I would have given the edge to Roach.”
Crawford was not planning to launch a new attack and was even empathetic with Tank, believing that what happened was due to overconfidence.
“(Roach) had a great fight. Gervonta also had a great fight, but I think he just got too confident. I don’t think he took Roach seriously,” said Terence Crawford.
