The lightweight division in boxing is currently all over the place. WBO champion Keyshawn Davis was stripped of his title for missing weight. WBA champion Gervonta Davis is in legal trouble and his future is up in the air. The IBF belt is vacant at the moment.

The only constant in the division has been Shakur Stevenson, who has defended his WBC title successfully three times after winning it in late 2023. After beating William Zepeda last month, Stevenson is eyeing a big fish to fry. His attention was initially on “Tank“, but it has since shifted to Teofimo Lopez. Fans don’t truly believe the two will agree to a fight, especially since both have pulled out of bouts in the past. But this one may be for real.

And it’s possible a date is already set. On Thursday, Lopez responded to one of Stevenson’s posts on X, and seemingly confirmed a tentative date for their bout. Lopez claims he will make Stevenson his “lil b**ch” in January.

The question for that fight will be at what weight it is. That could be a holdup in negotiations. Stevenson has been at lightweight for a couple of years, while Lopez has been at light welterweight since 2022. Lopez would certainly have the advantage at a higher weight.

A January date gives both boxers plenty of time to prepare and have a full training camp. The two fought two months apart, in May and July.
