Although Teofimo Lopez has criticized Gervonta Davis on several occasions, the Brooklyn native could not overlook the unfair treatment the press is giving ‘Tank’ after his early March draw with Lamont Roach Jr.
It was during his appearance on the PorterWay podcast that ‘The Takeover’ told young boxers that the media is no one’s friend.
“To all the young fighters, look how much love they gave and shared with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis before the fight,” said the WBO super lightweight champion.
“Look at what all the reporters were doing before the fight,” he continued. “Look at how they were laughing at his jokes before his fight against Lamont Roach. After the fight, look how many were waiting, waiting to tear this man down,” he added.
“They don’t care about us. They will never care about us. When you win, they’ll be there, but they’re waiting for any moment to make a mistake. Even a draw, look how much hate he received,” Lopez said of the harsh treatment of the press to ‘Tank’.
“The Takeover acknowledged what his issue is with Gervonta: “It’s because I want to fight him. That’s me. I can say that.”
Teofimo Lopez questions Gervonta Davis’ impressive knockout record
Essentially Sports recalls that in January, Lopez questioned the legitimacy of Gervonta Davis’ impressive knockout record, pointing out that the Baltimore southpaw has yet to face an elite opponent
Before his controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. earlier this month, ‘Tank’ boasted an undefeated record of 30-0 with 28 knockouts.
“However, Teofimo Lopez said that this mark was misleading. ‘I think a lot of people just focus on the knockouts he gets, but against who?’ he said. ‘They’re not experienced fighters,’ added ‘The Takeover’.”
