Some traditions remain firmly in place in certain circles, such as the British royal family, where it is expected that anyone interacting with them will follow established protocols. Yet, not everyone knows exactly how to handle themselves in such situations.

That was the case for Jason Kelce, the brother of Travis, who happens to be the boyfriend of pop superstar Taylor Swift. In her recent appearance on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, alongside Travis, Swift recounted the time Jason met the British royals during one of her concerts in London.

During the conversation, in which she also discussed her new album, Swift took a moment to share lighthearted memories involving her partner’s affable brother. She recalled being in the British capital for a performance when Jason had the chance to meet Prince William.

As the moment unfolded, Jason, according to the story told on the podcast-had a beer in hand and found himself unsure of what to do with it upon meeting the prince. This sparked laughter from all three participants in the episode.

Swift later posted selfies with Prince William, who at the time was celebrating his birthday and was accompanied by his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Wasn’t this the week that I got to watch Jason meet the Royal Family?” Swift recalled. “I knew you were serious when I was like, ‘Jason, do you want to go meet [them]?

Travis jumped in to add more about his brother’s awkwardly funny moment.

He was like, ‘What do I do with my beer?

Swift continued the playful recounting.

But I want to take it. But I know that I probably should not take it… I watched this happen and it was kind of the most amazing [thing].

She said, laughing.

Jason confirmed the story himself.

If I don’t have my beer, what do I do with this hand now? Or am I just, like, being authentic by having the beer? I would normally have the beer. Wouldn’t they want me to be myself?

Swift teased him further, saying she could see the inner debate playing out in his mind. She called it a “fantastic” moment she would never forget.

After a while, Travis recalled the encounter they had in June.

Dude, he was the coolest motherf***er… He was so cool!” he said, adding that he hadn’t known the royals would be there, but meeting them was “wonderful” and “spectacular.

They also touched on royal etiquette, with Jason explaining they had been briefed beforehand.

Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to, like, bow to them, curtsy, [or] just be an American idiot and shake their hand… But they said that because we weren’t at, like, an official royal event, we didn’t need to bow or curtsy. If it would have been like an official meeting of royalty event, then it would have been that. But I did still address him as Your Royal Highness.

The exchange proved to be an entertaining highlight for listeners of the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast.
