Stephen Curry, widely regarded as the best shooter in NBA history, continues to push the boundaries of three-point mastery. Yet even Curry admits there are feats on the court he can’t replicate – particularly when it comes to pure athleticism. And in a surprising twist, he believes Ja Morant tops that list.

No one questions Curry’s impact on the league. A recent Bleacher Report analysis ranked him as the tenth-best player of all time, stating: “Billed for so long as the best shooter in league history, Curry has proven to be so much more.”

The publication noted that Curry wasn’t the first player “with the gravity you suck in entire defenses,” but he was the first to weaponize it in a variety of dynamic, exhausting ways. “His teams are better by virtue of him existing,” the article added. Still, during a recent golf appearance, Curry bypassed his own team to pay tribute to a rival’s athletic abilities.

Curry names Morant the NBA’s most athletic

Last week, while competing at the American Century Championship golf tournament, Curry was asked who he considers the NBA’s most athletic player. Without hesitation – and to the surprise of many – he named Ja Morant, skipping over Warriors teammate and dunking phenom Jonathan Kuminga.

“Pound for pound, I think he’s the most athletic player in the league,” Curry said of Memphis Grizzlies star. He didn’t stop there, also mentioning Russell Westbrook in his prime and John Wall as previous contenders for the title. “We always talk about those guys as being the most athletic in the league.”

While Kuminga is often hailed as the Warriors’ best dunker today, Morant’s aerial feats continue to stun. His jaw-dropping dunk last season over Victor Wembanyama could have been immortalized – if not for a prior foul on Morant that nullified the play.

Curry and Morant are two NBA titans

Curry and Morant represent two pillars of the modern NBA: one with unparalleled shooting precision and accolades including MVPs and championships; the other with explosive athleticism and high-flying skills that earn him comparisons to legends like Michael Jordan and emerging stars like Mac McClung.

Being recognized by Steph Curry as the most athletic player in the NBA is no small honor – especially when it comes at the expense of one of Curry’s own teammates.
