The Golden State Warriors have one clear goal for the upcoming season: reclaiming the NBA championship. To do so, they’ll need their top stars, Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, leading the way. However, one key piece of the roster, Jonathan Kuminga, has yet to finalize a deal for the season, a decision both Curry and Butler have publicly supported.

One of the biggest storylines of the Warriors’ offseason has been the ongoing contract negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga. With training camp approaching, the pressure is mounting on Golden State’s front office to find a resolution.

Curry and Butler show support for Jonathan Kuminga amid Warriors contract talks

The contract extension of Congolese forward Jonathan Kuminga has become a major talking point within the Golden State Warriors. Kuminga, who joined the team after being selected seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, remains at the center of offseason discussions.

Kuminga is pushing for a player option in the second year of his deal, while the Golden State Warriors remain firm on their proposal, which includes a team option for year two. The gap highlights the key sticking point holding back an agreement.

The Warriors’ veteran leaders have stepped up in support of Jonathan Kuminga, urging the franchise to finalize his deal as soon as possible. According to ClutchPoints journalist Brett Siegel, the front office is now feeling pressure not only from Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler but also from Draymond Green to secure Kuminga’s future with the team.

“ClutchPoints has learned that Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler have all been advocated behind the scenes in recent weeks for the Warriors to re-sign Jonathan Kuminga to a fair contract. Green especially has been in JK’s corner.” Wrote Siegel in his X account.

Jonathan Kuminga’s agent provides update on his future with Warriors

In recent weeks, little information has surfaced regarding Jonathan Kuminga’s contract extension with the Warriors. However, his agent, Aaron Turner, shed new light on the situation during an interview on The Hoop Collective Podcast, where he discussed the current offers on the table.

“He will take the qualifying offer, but if he’s treated fairly, in our mind, that means flipping the team option to a player option, then he’s back, and we don’t have to talk about the qualifying offer,” Turner explained. He added, “But the QO is real. It’s something JK wants to take. It does have upside: you’re not getting traded, and you’ll enter unrestricted free agency.”

For now, Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the Warriors remains uncertain. Nevertheless, the strong backing from his teammates stands as a clear show of support in his pursuit of a new contract.
