Sophie Cunningham made it clear from the start that the viral herpes comment is all in jest. During a recent episode of the “Like a Farmer Podcast,” the Indiana Fever guard joked about her diet and how it supposedly led to her cold sore, leaving fans both amused and incredulous.

Cunningham, who has been recovering from a torn MCL during her first season with the Fever, discussed how her eating habits have helped her stay strong. “I think everyone is different,” she said.

“Everything that works for you, might not work for me. … But I was raised on meat, potatoes, cornbread, a big old apple ppie at the end, sugar and everything.

“But there’s nothing like a big old piece of meat.”

The lighthearted moment had her cohost, Pat Spinosa, laughing along, and it quickly became a viral clip.

Fans on X immediately shared their reactions, with one joking, “That’s how she got herpes huh” while another added, “That cold sore on her lip proves how much Sophie loves her meat”

Fans embrace Cunningham’s humor and honesty

Other viewers focused on the comedic timing of the exchange. “The way they both immediately folded is the best part of this clip” one fan wrote.

Supporters praised Cunningham‘s personality, calling her “a national treasure” and praising her sense of humor for keeping fans entertained.

The joke references a cold sore Cunningham has openly discussed.

On her January podcast, “Show Me Something,” cohosted with West Wilson, she explained how different climates and sharing ChapStick and drinks with friends sometimes trigger cold sores.

“I didn’t kiss anybody!” she reassured listeners, laughing about the situation.

Despite the online buzz, Cunningham continues to approach her recovery and her public persona with humor.

Her playful attitude, combined with her dedication to rehab and diet, has kept fans laughing while following her journey back to full strength.
