Sophie Cunningham has been the talk of the town. And not just because of her successful recovery from surgery after suffering an unfortunate tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee, which ended her 2025 season with the Indiana Fever.

After releasing the fifth episode of her podcast “Show Me Something” with her co-host, West Wilson, the 29-year-old point guard questioned whether her relationship with the WNBA is going as well as her knee.

Another fine on the way?

Cunningham has been fined three times by the league for her podcast. After the first episode aired, in which she did not hide her anger with the referees and criticized their actions, Sophie faced a $1,500 fine. When she was notified of this punishment, she reacted strongly against it, which led to her being fined again.

After the August 19 episode in which she insinuated that the referees were giving preferential treatment to Dallas Wings rookie star Paige Bueckers, the WNBA handed her a third fine.

For this reason, when the fifth episode began, her co-host asked Sophie if they could celebrate the fact that the fourth one hadn’t resulted in a fourth penalty.

However, the Fever star could neither deny nor confirm this, revealing that since her surgery she has not received any news on the matter from Fever general manager, Amber Cox:

I would like to know, too, but I have had surgery and I’ve been on painkillers. So, I actually haven’t even got to see my GM. She’s normally the one who pulls me aside. So, it is still up in the air if I got fined or not.

Despite this, when Indiana faced the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, Sophie was present, so it would be surprising if Cox had not informed her of her situation with the league.

It should be noted that, beyond her podcast, Cunningham was also previously punished for calling “some refs” “stupid,” “slow,” and “useless” on July 17 in a video she shared with her followers on her official TikTok account, lip-syncing to Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Manchild.”

With a new episode on the internet, it remains to be seen whether or not the WNBA will impose a new sanction on Cunningham. Meanwhile, the Fever are preparing to travel and face the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, the 29th, at Crypto.com Arena.
