Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the 2025 WNBA season and this was something fans and the player herself didn’t want to hear.

She suffered an unfortunate torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee against Connecticut on August 19 and, following surgery, is recovering. However, the 29-year-old point guard admitted to a “mistake.”

Sophie explained her bold decision following her injury

Cunningham has been making headlines, and not only because of her good recovery from her injury. Since joining the team and after her first year in the Fever colors, she has endeared herself to the fans, not only for defending Caitlin Clark, but also for her eccentric personality and way of being.

Her most recent publication proves it, after sharing with her 1.3 million followers on Instagram a picture of herself posing with high boots and only a leather jacket with bangs, showing her derriere: “back when my knee was healthy” she wrote next to the photo last August 25.

However, on the most recent episode of her podcast “Show Me Something” with co-host West Wilson, Sophie confessed that she regrets sharing this photo.

When Wilson asked her “While you were on pain meds, is that when you posted the picture of your a** on Instagram?” she admitted: “How did you know?” Cunningham said with a smile. “Since surgery, last episode, I don’t remember what we talked about. I don’t remember much at all,” she continued.

When her co-host asked Sophie about the reactions the photo received -more than 145,000 likes and 4,000 comments-, she said: “That was a mistake“.

After 30 games with Indiana, in which he averaged 8.6 points, 1.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, Cunningham will not be available for the rest of the season or the playoffs. Despite fans’ longing to see her shine again, the priority is her 100% recovery.

Meanwhile, Indiana prepares to host the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Friday the 5th. After facing the Sky, they will face the Washington Mystics at CFG Bank Arena Baltimore, and finally the Minnesota Lynx at home on Tuesday the 9th.
