Simone Biles, widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts in history, is accustomed to mastering complex challenges on the world’s biggest stages.
Yet recently, the Olympic champion found herself frustrated by something far more ordinary: a persistent malfunction on her iPhone.
Rather than resolving the issue privately, Biles chose to consult her fans, offering a candid glimpse into her life beyond elite sport, and notably doing so without involving her husband, Jonathan Owens.
On Friday, Biles shared her annoyance through Instagram Stories after repeatedly receiving an error message while attempting to send text messages.
Posting a screenshot of the notification, she wrote, “IM SO SICK OF RECEIVING THIS MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO TEXT SOMEONE…” The message on her phone read, “Cannot Send Message,” followed by instructions indicating that iMessage needed to be enabled.
The situation became more perplexing when Biles clarified that iMessage was already activated on her device.
“My iMessage is turned on,” she added, suggesting that conventional troubleshooting methods were ineffective. Seeking solutions, she turned to her audience of more than 12 million followers, opening an Instagram question box labeled simply, “helppppp.”
Biles’ transparency goes beyond daily events
The gymnast’s willingness to share a small but relatable struggle highlights a larger pattern in how she connects with her audience. Biles has consistently chosen openness over being perfect, allowing fans to see the person behind the medals. That same honesty has recently extended to far more personal conversations.
In a recent interview with People, Biles spoke candidly about undergoing cosmetic procedures and why she felt compelled to address the topic publicly.
She explained that being open and honest has always been part of her identity, and she wanted others to feel “no shame” about their own choices. While she has achieved things most people can’t imagine, Biles emphasized that conversations about self-confidence and personal decisions are far more relatable than standing on an Olympic podium.
The discussion followed a TikTok video in which she revealed she had undergone three cosmetic surgeries, noting that two were subtle and likely unnoticed.
While she avoided confirming details online, she later clarified that the procedures included eyelid surgery and earlobe repair, along with a breast augmentation. For Biles, transparency was never about attention,
By sharing her frustrations, like a malfunctioning phone, and meaningful life decisions, Biles continues to build a genuine bond with her fans. Whether she’s asking for tech advice or opening up about personal growth, her authenticity remains a defining part of who she is.
