Shedeur Sanders trade rumors are heating up, even though he hasn’t played a single snap in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns. The former Colorado Buffaloes star is already making headlines due to one of the most absurd and premature NFL trade rumors circulating.

The quarterback situation within the Browns isn’t necessarily complicated, but there’s still significant uncertainty because it remains unclear who will be the starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.

Shedeur Sanders to the Indianapolis Colts?

That’s the scenario proposed by Max Dible of Heavy.com, who suggests a potential Shedeur Sanders trade where the Cleveland Browns would send him and a fourth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Anthony Richardson, a quarterback who has struggled significantly during his first two NFL seasons.

Dible argues this deal could offer a final chance for Richardson to prove his worth in Indianapolis. Should he fail, the Colts quarterback depth chart may shift, and Richardson could be traded before the next season’s deadline.

In this context, the trade could become more plausible if Daniel Jones ultimately secures the starting role for the Colts-another quarterback trying to rediscover his best form.

“Should he fail to do so, the Colts will likely look to move him, and do so ahead of the mid-season trade deadline so that the receiving team can get Richardson some reps before deciding on his fifth-year option next summer,” wrote Dible. “Thus, if Jones wins the job during the preseason, Cleveland could potentially make an offer of Sanders and a fourth-round pick in 2026 in exchange for Richardson.”

But realistically, this Browns-Colts trade rumor is highly unlikely. Richardson completed just 47.7% of his passes across 11 games last season, while Shedeur Sanders stats and potential continue to impress scouts and analysts.

While Anthony Richardson was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Sanders generated buzz for sliding to the fifth round-but that doesn’t mean he lacks the tools to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
