For a boxer who is still undefeated and has the Floyd Mayweather Jr. co-sign, Shakur Stevenson has more haters than he would care to admit. He isn’t alone of course, as some other high-profile fighters in a similar vain have dealt with similar criticism, such as Devin Haney. But Stevenson has been working hard to put the doubters to rest.
A TKO win over Josh Padley and a convincing UD win against William Zepeda have shown a resurgent Stevenson this year. Stevenson now wants bigger fish to fry. Gervonta Davis remains the biggest in the lightweight division, and Stevenson hasn’t been shy about wanting a piece of him. But Tank’s future is currently unknown due to legal troubles. That has Stevenson looking at other high-profile boxers, and it seems that one in particular has caught his eye.
Shakur Stevenson accepts Teofimo Lopez’s challenge to fight
On Friday, Stevenson posted on social media that he’s heard about Teofimo Lopez‘s desire to fight him. Stevenson is all about it, asking Lopez what the hang-up would be. Stevenson also re-posted another post mentioning the fight, saying “I just wanna be great I hope he feels the same“.
Stevenson would be moving up a weight class to fight Lopez, who has been at junior welterweight since his last lightweight fight in November of 2021, when he stunningly lost to George Kambosos Jr.
