The boxing world is characterized by fights outside the ring that help to heat up the fights, so that they attract more attention and have better attendance or more pay-per-view sales, in other occasions so that the boxers get better purses, as Shakur Stevenson, who is pressing to respect the payment that Sheikh Turki Alalshikh promised him for fighting William Zepeda.

The fight was scheduled for February and was postponed due to a hand injury to Zepeda, and now it was Stevenson himself who reportedly cancelled due to differences over pay.

“After all the shit that’s been said, Shakur Stevenson pulls out of the fight against Zepeda,” promoter Oscar de la Hoya posted on his X account, in a message that was quickly responded to by ‘Sugar’ Stevenson himself

Shakur Stevenson lashes out at Turki Alalshikh

After the Golden Boy’s attack on social media, Stevenson responded in a message in which, after placing several mocking emojis, he blamed Turki Alalshikh and invited De La Hoya to negotiate for the fight to take place.

“Is that what they told you? Turki promised me a number and now he is going back on his promise and sending his Towel guys to give me the information instead of telling me directly what he is trying to do,” Stevenson responded in a message in which he stated, “I don’t submit to anyone, Mr. De La Hoya! Now let’s negotiate!”.

Stevenson continued his reflections on his X account and, although De la Hoya revealed that the fight was canceled, the lightweight champion gave a sign that he wants to fight Zepeda and is confident that he will be victorious.

“I haven’t finished negotiating because one thing is I’m the champion, so regardless of whether the fight with these people gets done or not, I’m going to stomp this guy, but the fight will get done!” Stevenson posted on his X account.
