Serena Williams stole the spotlight in Manhattan on Thursday night, dazzling at a glitzy US Open kickoff party just weeks after revealing her jaw-dropping 31-pound weight loss.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who retired from professional tennis three years ago, showed off her slimmed-down figure in a chic white halter-neck top and a curve-hugging midi skirt at DraftKings and David Grutman’s “Welcome to New York” dinner at the Crane Club.
Williams, 43, recently opened up about her transformation, admitting she turned to the weight-loss drug Zepbound-a GLP-1 medication also found in popular brands like Ozempic and Wegovy-after years of struggling to shed postpartum weight. “It made me feel light physically and light mentally,” she told People and the TODAY show.
It’s been a long battle for Williams
The tennis icon revealed her weight battles began after the birth of her first daughter, Olympia, in 2017, and resurfaced after welcoming her second child, Adira, in August 2023.
Despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Williams said her body often hit frustrating plateaus-until she sought guidance from healthcare company Ro, where she now serves as a paid spokesperson and where her husband, Alexis Ohanian, is an investor.
Serena dazzled among the tennis stars
At Thursday’s US Open party, Williams mingled with stars like Aryna Sabalenka, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Nick Kyrgios, and Juan Martín del Potro. Guests enjoyed a curated menu by Michelin-starred chef Melissa Rodriguez and cocktails designed for the occasion. Sabalenka also unveiled her new Boardroom magazine cover alongside co-founder Rich Kleiman.
But the night ultimately belonged to Williams, whose radiant look and candid revelations about her weight loss journey continue to spark conversation on and off the court.
