There are victories that mark a before and after in a boxer’s career, but they do not always change what goes through his head.

For Ryan Garcia, the title didn’t make him.

After conquering the 147-pound belt after defeating Mario Barrios, everything pointed to a new stage, an opportunity to look ahead.

But it was not so.

Because even in the midst of that moment, there is something that still lingers, something that he does not quite let go of.

And it has to do with what happened in 2023.

That’s where the name Gervonta Davis comes in.

That fight, which ended in a seventh-round knockout loss, remains something of an open book for him. Not only because of the result, but also because of the conditions in which it took place, with a catchweight and rehydration rules that, according to Garcia himself, affected his performance.

That’s why, beyond the title, what happened that day is still something that, somehow, does not leave him alone.

Today, April 26, he made it clear on social media. He did not refer to future opponents or title defenses, but to returning to that fight.

“I need that one back on even grounds. I need that!”, he wrote, making it clear that it’s not just about competing again, but about doing it differently.

And although his life has gone on and he has had other triumphs and different rivals, Davis is still the one who keeps Ryan awake at night

Has Davis already put it behind him?

Meanwhile, Davis has taken a different pace. He has not fought since March 2025, when he drew by majority decision against Lamont Roach Jr, and there is still no clarity on when or in what category he will return.

Even so, he left a brief message that keeps the possibility open: “we back in action soon”.

For now, there is no confirmation of a rematch, only a clear intention from one side that, so far, has no response or certainty that it will happen.
