Travis Hunter has been chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the second overall pick of the last NFL Draft, after a fantastic season with the University of Colorado Boulder. Now, Hunter has assisted with the training minicamps and other organized activities from the franchise, where he has gathered with his new teammates.

The position of Travis Hunter is generating doubts in the NFL, making everybody wonder how the player will act in the season that is about to start. One thing is clear, and this is the opinion that James Gladstone had about the rookie, which explained why Hunter’s OTA reps are focused on a Wide receiver.

Jaguars GM James Gladstone Clarifies Travis Hunter’s Role

James Gladstone, the new GM of the Jaguars, arrived at the team in February 2025. He arrived at the team of Florida after being the director of scouting of the Los Angeles Rams. The main challenge that he originally assigned was to rebuild the roster of the team, and that’s where Hunter enters as one of the most promising rookies in the NFL.

Gladstone, in an interview with Andrew Siciliano for Sirius XM NFL radio, talked about Travis Hunter and how he could afront any challenge and clarified the doubt of his role during the upcoming NFL season, a question he directly addressed.

“Our understanding is that Travis is most naturally comfortable, most naturally in tune on the defensive side of the ball. We wanted to load him offensively throughout this window to ensure that by the time we got to training camp, we had a runway built up on that side.”

As well, he said about the main position of the rookie star, “I do think there’s a little bit of a misconception in that it’s wide receiver first, corner second, as much as it is the learning methodology of wide receiver through this phase, and then continuing to trickle in more defense, since that is his primary background,” he said.

Liam Coen Expresses Confidence in Travis Hunter’s Versatility

Liam Coen, the head coach, is preparing for a new season in the NFL with Jacksonville, and he is arming the most powerful squad to achieve the goals. One player he’s consistently praised is rookie Travis Hunter, highlighting the value of a versatile athlete who never gets tired and gives his 100% in every snap.

“The one thing you notice is for a guy that hasn’t played a ton of football, been out conditioning for maybe the last two months because he was out on a bit of a tour, the guy can run forever. He just kind of goes, runs a route, runs back. Travis has worked hard at getting this stuff right”. He talked in an interview during the offseason after the first training session with the team.

Jacksonville Jaguars will have one of the most promising rookies in the league, a player who has amazed everyone in the league, and with the positive view that his GM and coach think that he is able to play both the offensive and defensive zones. It is time for Travis Hunter to show his real potential when the NFL season starts in September.
