In recent days, the exclusion of Neymar from Carlo Ancelotti‘s Brazil squad for the upcoming international friendlies was confirmed, but now a devastating report has emerged for the former FC Barcelona star, who was desperately trying to return to the Brazil national team (Canarinha) ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Discontent with Neymar in Brazil: clear signs he could miss the World Cup

According to CNN Brasil, citing internal sources from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Neymar is “practically out of the World Cup.” The report describes the situation of the current Santos FC forward as “extremely delicate,” mainly due to the complete lack of confidence in his current physical condition – stemming from prolonged inactivity – and growing tension with the CBF leadership.

Neymar’s public statements after being left off Ancelotti’s list have not gone down well at the federation, where officials believe he is leveraging his massive media influence and the overwhelming fan support to put pressure on the coaching staff.

One of the most criticized incidents was his absence from the Santos vs. Mirassol match: Carlo Ancelotti traveled specifically to watch him play in person, yet Neymar not only did not feature, but he didn’t even show up at the stadium or make any effort to meet or greet the coach as a sign of willingness or respect.

In Brazil, it’s widely viewed that the CBF made a serious effort to give him one last genuine opportunity by assessing him in a competitive environment, but as things stand today, Neymar has lost enormous ground in the race to make the 2026 World Cup squad.

A few key matches remain before the final squad announcement, but according to CNN Brasil, the Brazilian superstar is on extremely thin ice and his chances of being included by Carlo Ancelotti in the final roster are minimal.
