In Boston, it is a bewildering offseason. Despite the addition of Ranger Suarez, they failed to sign most of the top free agents, such as Kyle Schwarber and Alex Bregman. On the other hand, they did complete a couple of favorable trades for Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras. However, there are still areas that need to be covered and not much movement is being generated.

One of their priorities is a catcher to take on a backup role. Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong underwent surgery at this stage of the winter market. Although they are expected to be ready to start the season, manager Alex Cora is not confident and is looking for a player to serve as a replacement. He has his sights set on an old acquaintance, his former catcher Christian Vazquez.

This is just a guess, but if the market settles the right way, Christian Vazquez is someone Alex Cora appreciates and would love to have back. Again, this is speculation and not a report

After leaving the Red Sox in 2022 to go to the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins, Vazquez would return to the team as a man who provides security for Cora for any emergency that may arise in case Narvaez and Wong do not recover in time or suffer a relapse.

Boston continues with its plan

The Red Sox continue with their project of forming a young team that will help the organization to get a place in the playoffs, as happened last season after a three-year absence. They signed Alex Bregman before the start of the 2025 campaign and then traded franchise superstar Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. The team looks well on its way to taking another big step forward this year.
