Netflix’s Quarterback has never been only about touchdowns and locker room speeches, and Season 3 may prove that more than ever as the show returns on July 14 with a cast that feels deliberately built around uncertainty.
Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and Joe Flacco will be followed through the 2025 NFL season, giving viewers a behind the scenes look at four quarterbacks living through very different versions of pressure.
Netflix announced the lineup for the third season of the docuseries, which is produced by NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions.
The show previously featured Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota in Season 1, before Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Cousins appeared in Season 2.
This year’s group doesn’t have the same obvious superstar pull as Mahomes or Burrow, but that may be the point.
Instead, Season 3 has a quarterback trying to confirm his franchise status, a veteran fighting to extend his revival, a No.1 pick learning the league in real time and a 40-year-old former Super Bowl MVP somehow finding another storyline.
Why Netflix chose these four quarterbacks
Daniels gives the series its young star. After leading Washington to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie, he entered 2025 with a very different burden. The Commanders were no longer a surprise, and every performance came with proof-of-concept pressure attached.
His season was complicated by injuries, which should give the series a sharper look at what happens when a young quarterback’s rise is interrupted by the physical reality of the NFL.
Mayfield brings a more seasoned kind of tension. He has already lived through the highs and lows of being a No.1 overall pick, changing teams and rebuilding his reputation.
In Tampa Bay, he became more than a bridge after Tom Brady, but the Buccaneers’ 2025 season ended in frustration after a late slide left them outside the playoffs.
Ward offers the most traditional documentary arc. Drafted No.1 overall by the Tennessee Titans, the former Miami quarterback became the face of a rebuilding franchise immediately.
His rookie year included flashes of promise, but also the hard lessons that come with playing behind an offense still finding itself.
Joe Flacco gives Quarterback its wild card
Flacco may be the most unexpected choice, and potentially the most revealing. The veteran began the 2025 season with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Cincinnati Bengals after Joe Burrow’s injury.
That move gives Netflix a rare chance to show the business side of quarterback life during a season, from learning a new playbook to telling family members about a sudden move.
Flacco’s inclusion also gives the show a different emotional weight. He’s not a young star chasing fame. He’s a former Super Bowl MVP still trying to prove he can help a team win deep into his career.
That contrast is what makes this season interesting. Quarterback is not just following four passers. It is following four careers at turning points.
For Netflix, that may be more valuable than simply chasing the biggest names. Season 3 looks like a study of what the position takes from players at every stage, from first-year hope to late-career survival.
