Taylor Lewan has been through a lot on the football field-but nothing could’ve prepared him for what happened Thursday night at Busch Stadium.
The former Pro Bowl offensive tackle turned podcaster made headlines for all the wrong reasons after tossing what many are calling the worst ceremonial first pitch in MLB history.
Before the Kansas City Royals took on the St. Louis Cardinals, Lewan and his “Bussin’ With The Boys” co-host, fellow ex-NFL player Will Compton, were invited to throw out the first pitches. Compton stepped up and calmly fired a perfect strike. Lewan? Not so much.
The ball sailed so far wide of the plate that it nearly hit a group of observers. Seriously. If the goal was to go viral, Lewan might be a genius.
Social media didn’t forgive Lewan
Social media had a field day:
- “50 Cent approved this throw,” one fan joked, referencing another infamously wild first pitch.
- “My god I’m a lefty… and not only was that embarrassing but that was pure cr*p,” someone else wrote.
- “That was on purpose for the viral clip… c’mon dude,” another speculated.
- “We can’t be talking ball on the show after this,” a fan teased.
Lewan, known for his dominant play with the Tennessee Titans and his college accolades at Michigan, clearly met his match-on a baseball diamond. He owned the moment with signature self-deprecating humor.
Lewan is now a man on a mission
“This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game,” Lewan admitted in a statement, referencing a particularly tough outing from his football days. “I need redemption.”
No word yet on whether Busch Stadium will give him a second chance-but fans are already campaigning for a rematch.
Until then, it’s safe to say that Lewan’s first pitch has cemented his place in MLB’s hall of ceremonial misfires… and maybe earned “Bussin’ With The Boys” its most unforgettable episode yet.
