Donald Trump experienced firsthand an alleged attempted attack on his person last Saturday. The shooter, Cole Allen, wanted to gain access to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner by running at a speed that was clear in the recorded videos. Trump himself joked about it. “He ran 45 yards like… I think the NFL should sign him. He was very fast. When you see the video he almost comes out blurry,” he explained in an interview on the program ’60 Minutes’.

The Republican also praised the swift response of the Secret Service, whose security measures were questioned during his conversation with the journalist: “I’m a big fan of law enforcement. Some of these people may be crazy, but they’re not stupid and they figure things out. But it was amazing because as soon as they saw him, they pulled out their guns and shot him right away.”

Trump faces off with journalist: “I knew you would because you are a horrible person”

The interview reached a moment of maximum tension when the journalist asked him about the manifesto of the shooter, Cole Allen. “I am not willing to allow a pedophile, rapist and traitor to stain my hands with his crimes,” the detainee explains in the text. Donald Trump’s response was blunt: “I was waiting for you to read this because you are a horrible person. Yes, he wrote that. I’m not a rapist, I didn’t rape anyone. Did you read that garbage from a sick person? (…) You should be ashamed of yourself for reading this (…) They are a disgrace, but go ahead, let’s finish the interview. You are a disgrace.”

Trump: “I thought, I’ve been through this a couple of times before”

The Republican acknowledged that he took the attempted attack during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with relative equanimity. “I thought, well, I’ve been through this a couple of times before,” he explained. Donald Trump was quickly aware that something bad was happening at the Hilton Hotel in Washington. “When the Secret Service said ‘get down,’ that means trouble,” he said.

The Republican recalled the assassination attempts he suffered. The first and most memorable was on July 13, 2024, when Thomas Matthew Crooks shot him in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania. The bullet missed his life by inches. In September, two months later, the Secret Service located a man, Ryan Routh, armed with a rifle at his West Palm Beach golf club in Florida, while the president was practicing the sport.
