Without a doubt, seeing stars like Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark on the court catches the attention of WNBA fans, who don’t want to miss a game and sell out every ticket.

Since her time at Iowa and her rookie year, CC’s plays have made her one of the most visible figures in the league, even while sidelined by injuries.

Indiana’s most underrated player

However, another key player on the team is often overshadowed by the media spotlight that other teammates have achieved.

Veteran point guard Kelsey Mitchell has been instrumental for the Fever. She joined the team in the 2018 WNBA Draft as the first overall pick and has been shining ever since.

And although she doesn’t stand out as much as Clark on social media, for example, and has been in Indiana for years, Kelsey remains the most underrated player on the team. Or so says legend Lisa Leslie.

In a recent episode of her podcast, “Between the Lines,” Lisa did not hesitate to say:

Kelsey Mitchell, even though she’s on your team – you guys have this biggest spotlight – she’s still the most underrated player

The episode also featured the 29-year-old guard’s teammate, Lexie Hull. Of course, in response to Leslie’s comment, she didn’t hold back either and reaffirmed the idea of the 53-year-old former star:

I agree,” Hull told Leslie. “She is one of the most athletic, quickest players I’ve ever seen. The way she can move through a line of people and still get to the rim and still get a shot off, it’s impressive.

The truth is that Mitchell has averaged 19.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game this season, and in the match against the New York Liberty, she scored 29 points. Although her opponent won the game, she was the top scorer.

“I think she deserves her flowers. People deserve to know how incredible she is. She’s been here for years, and I’m so happy that people are coming to watch and support her now,Hull concluded.

Despite her numbers, this is the last year of Kelsey’s contract with the Fever. Although she signed a one-year contract extension during the preseason for $249,244, it is still unknown whether she will remain in Indiana or seek new opportunities. In the meantime, she continues to shine.
