Despite the Indiana Fever’s recent 100-91 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, Aliya Boston shines and dazzles.
Since joining the team as the first overall pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, Boston has dazzled in her three seasons with the team, being named an All-Star in each of them and earning numerous individual and team accolades. And she has no plans to stop.
She recently established herself as the franchise’s player with the most consecutive double-doubles, surpassing Caitlin Clark, was named “Eastern Conference Player of the Week” by the WNBA, and in the game against the Sparks, she had 15 points, 4 assists, and 9 rebounds.
Without a doubt, her third season has been superior to the others: with 15.5 points and 3.8 assists, she has surpassed her career highs. And Stephanie White, her coach, may not only have the explanation for this, but may be the reason itself.
Boston’s influence is in the NBA
Speaking on ESPN’s “NBA Today” program, the 48-year-old coach not only praised her player, but also said that Aliyah has been underrated and deserves more attention. She also revealed how she has been finding her game and which NBA icon has inspired her to do so.
Contrary to what many expected, White did not mention figures such as Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers or Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. Not even Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton:
“In the offseason, I said, ‘I want you to watch Jokic,’” White stated, reflecting on a conversation she had with Boston before the start of the 2025 campaign.
Of course, the game of Nikola Jokic, star of the Denver Nuggets and three-time NBA MVP, is not the same as that of the Fever star. However, his height and skill are benchmarks for the 6-foot-5 forward.
Now, she herself is becoming a benchmark for other players with her unique style and unmatched talent.
