The NBA Playoffs are in full swing. There have been several exciting games so far, but perhaps the most surprising one was the Los Angeles Lakers getting dismantled at home by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. As the No. 3 seed with home court advantage, LeBron James and Luka Doncic wanted to get started with a win, but Anthony Edwards‘ squad had other plans.
The game wasn’t really close, with the Wolves taking full control by halftime and never letting up. They got huge contributions from Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid. Edwards played a slightly lesser role on offense, but his trademark confidence was as present as ever. In fact, he got into a heated back-and-forth with Lakers fans at one point. Now, that has come back to haunt him, at least financially.
Anthony Edwards fined $50,000 for spat with Lakers fans
On Tuesday, news dropped that Edwards was fined $50,000 for his comments and gesture directed at Lakers fans during the game. The gesture was likely enough for the fine, but he took it a step further by telling the fans “my d*** bigger than yours“. That might have taken it over the line in the eyes of the league.
Lakers fans took the fine as an opportunity to ask for a harsher punishment: they want him to get suspended for the rest of the series. Of course, there’s zero chance of that happening and any fan saying that is speaking tongue-in-cheek.
Edwards wasn’t his usual efficient self in the opening game of the series. He only shot 36.4% from the field, but he still poured in 22 points while contributing in other areas with 8 rebounds and 9 assists. The Lakers would have surely loved a suspension to even the series up.
