Nate Diaz is no stranger to combat sports, let alone boxing. After his illustrious career in the UFC, he made his boxing debut on August 5, 2023 against none other than Jake Paul. Eleven months later, he returned to the ring to face his rival, Jorge Masvidal. The showdown between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul seems to have baffled even a veteran like him.
Diaz was blunt when asked about the outcome of the fight, “Uh, Gervonta is a great boxer, but he’s not going to do anything to the damn Jake Paul”.
A physically uneven fight
This time, Diaz made it clear that he was not taking sides. “No, I don’t have a favorite.” Referring to the physical disparity, the 40-year-old MMA icon added: “Anything can happen, Davis is a tremendous fighter, but he’s going to have to put in extra effort to try to beat Paul.”
For Diaz, the fight didn’t make much sense. Even so, he offered a diplomatic perspective: “It’s actually a great fight. I don’t hate it, but let’s see what happens.” Nate Diaz handled the questions with a mixture of honesty and restraint.
However, and although he did not want to take sides, you could see how his balance was slightly tilted towards the YouTuber, “In my opinion, Jake Paul is going to hurt Gervonta Davis. Davis is a little man compared to Paul. I think it’s a big mismatch”.
The fight between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul continues to generate a mix of criticism and excitement. A matchup between a lightweight champion who has never been over 140 pounds and a YouTuber-turned-boxer who has fought at heavyweight and cruiserweight continues to intrigue many.
