In a move that adds both experience and proven pass rushing prowess, the Miami Dolphins have locked in four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon on a one-year contract potentially worth $6 million.

This strategic signing comes just ahead of their final preseason game, aiming to deepen a pass rush unit that’s been heavily tested by injuries. Besides injuries, the Dolphins have struggled this preseason, and Mike McDaniel is being filled with scrutiny ahead of a pivotal 2025 campaign.

Judon, a proven veteran

Matthew Judon, 33, arrives in Miami with 72 career sacks accrued across stints with the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, and Atlanta Falcons. His recent 2024 campaign saw him tally 5.5 sacks, an interception, and a defensive touchdown while appearing in all 17 games for Atlanta.

Although his production has dipped in recent seasons due to injuries, such as a torn biceps in 2023, he previously delivered standout performances. This includes a career high 15.5 sacks in 2022 and 12.4 in 2021.

Depth, insurance, and strategic fit for Dolphins

The Dolphins’ edge group has faced durability concerns: Bradley Chubb missed the entire 2024 season due to an ACL tear, Jaelan Phillips has endures consecutive injury-plagued years, and rising talent Chop Robinson recently exited practice in a cart scare; though his injury is reportedly not serious.

Coack Mike McDaniel downplayed any injury-driven urgency behind the signing, describing the visit as an opportunity to explore a mutually beneficial fit. Judon slots into a defensive front featuring Robinson, Chubb, and Phillips, creating a formidable but fragile edge rotation, now bolstered with a proven veteran presence.
