Nashville and Inter Miamiplayed out a goalless draw in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup round of 16, leaving everything open for the return leg next week in Fort Lauderdale.

The hosts had more chances (15 shots, five of them on target), but they ran into Dayne St. Clair time and again on a frustrating night in Nashville.Lionel Messi had one of Inter Miami’s few chances, in a shot at the start of the second half after running across half the field, but Brian Schwake cleared.

The two teams will meet again next Wednesday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, in what will be Inter Miami’s farewell to the stadium that has been its home since its founding.

The reigning MLS champion will open its new stadium in Miami on April 4, where it could play the quarterfinals if it qualifies.

The Concacaf Champions Cup is Inter Miami’s main objective in 2026, after having been eliminated by Vancouver in the semifinals last season.

Their hypothetical quarter-final opponent will come from the tie between Philadelphia and America, which the ‘Aguilas’ dominate after winning 1-0 in the first leg in the United States.
