A team’s success depends on multiple factors, many of them intangible. One of the most important is fostering a positive atmosphere within the locker room by selecting the right mix of personalities. Recognizing the significance of this task, the Philadelphia Eagles have a secret weapon: Dom “Big Dom” DiSandro.
The Eagles owe much of their success to the wise selections they’ve made in recent drafts. Players like Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, and Cooper DeJean-now stars of the team-were brought in through the draft, with DiSandro playing a pivotal role in the selection process.
With the 2025 NFL Draft just around the corner, the front office is working tirelessly to secure another impactful selection, one that will maximize their chances of achieving back-to-back championships. At the heart of this effort is “Big Dom.”
“Big Dom’s” role is paramount
Formally, DiSandro serves as the team’s chief security officer, director of game-day coaching operations, and advisor to the general manager. However, general manager Howie Roseman revealed that “Big Dom” plays a crucial role in reviewing the backgrounds of all potential players.
Roseman explained that the team has objective criteria to eliminate candidates who don’t fit their desired profile. “When we get past those guys, then we obviously have a process we go through. That starts with Dom,” the GM stated, emphasizing that DiSandro is the best in the NFL at vetting candidates.
However, “Big Dom’s” work extends beyond simple background checks. “His ability to not only gather information but also to have a feel for people is unmatched. And then we just have to make judgments,” Roseman elaborated. “In those situations, those are a little more subjective, and that’s based on all the information we get.”
The secret to the Eagles’ success
Part of what has propelled Philadelphia to three Super Bowl appearances-winning two of them in the last eight years-is the unity within their locker room. This cohesion begins with their strict recruiting rules; for instance, Roseman recently disclosed that the team does not sign players with a history of domestic violence.
With Dom DiSandro ensuring that each candidate meets the team’s high standards, the Eagles are well on their way to building one of the most successful dynasties in NFL history.
