Luka Doncic‘s unexpected trade sent shockwaves through the NBA, not just affecting the player himself but also deeply impacting his family. Although his father, Sasa, seems as though he may finally have accepted his new place with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Slovenian guard’s parent previously voiced his frustration with the Dallas Mavericks‘ management and openly criticized their decision after they axed the 26-year-old in exchange for Anthony Davis, reportedly citing fitness and professionalism fears.

However, recent events suggest that Sasa has now moved on from the initial disappointment and is embracing Luka‘s journey in LA based on his reaction during a crucial Lakers game offered clear proof of his emotional transition.

During the matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 27, Luka sealed the victory for his team with a crucial step-back play in the final moments despite being closely guarded by Nickeil Alexander-Walker as he made a contested three-point shot.

The Crypto.com Arena erupted as the ball swished through the net, and cameras immediately focused on Sasa in the stands and his stunned reaction of raising his arms in celebration, covering his face in disbelief, and shaking his head, captured the significance.

Doncic has finally arrived and the clutch play came after Luka had missed all eight of his prior three-point attempts in the match, making his game-sealing shot even more improbable as the Lakers went on to win 111-102.

Sasa Doncic Opens Up on Luka’s Trade and New Beginning

Despite his initial frustration with the Mavericks‘ decision, Sasa has since adopted a more composed perspective.

Ultimately, he’s a dad who doesn’t want to see his son disrespected and undervalued but now with Doncic being embraced by the Lakers squad and fans and putting up a triple double against Dallas themselves on February 25, he seems to have settled.

“Regarding the trade, I have to say: at least, what Luka and I talk about, it feels like it happened a year ago,” Sasa said previously in an interview with Slovenian press. “We have already forgotten about it, the bitterness of that moment.

“It was a shock, but at the end of the day, it’s a legitimate right of every team to trade its players if they are not satisfied with them. OK, what happened, happened. Life goes on.”
