Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has turned heads this offseason after he lost over 30 pounds. One NBA scout, who wanted to reamin anonymus, thinks this change is not just about a ‘being-fit‘ purpose.
According to ‘Sportskeeda‘ and ‘NBA Central’ on X, the scout said Doncic’s hard work in the offseason is also about his own drive: to show his old team, the Dallas Mavericks, that they were wrong to doubt him about his shape and conditioning.
“Man, he looks incredible… he’s quicker and more explosive,” the scout said. “I think he’s on a mission. I think he’s gonna win MVP and the scoring title next season. He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him.“
Criticism in Dallas
Doncic’s weight has been a topic through much of his time in the NBA. In November 2023, the Mavericks pulled him from play to let him work on his fitness, but it did not do much then. Team officials and TV commentators sometimes talked about his fitness publicly, and it seems this bothered the star from Slovenia.
In his last times with Dallas, Doncic was criticized by many, even though he kept up top stats. Moving to Los Angeles this summer in a big trade gave him a new start, and for some, a new push to prove critics wrong.
Massive change in Los Angeles
Since he got to Los Angeles, he looks slimmer and more swift in offseason drills. His weight loss, said to be about 31 pounds, is a hot topic in NBA convos. He was just on the cover of Men’s Health, which shows his body change and hard work.
Marko Mili, who used to help coach at the Mavericks, backed Doncic recently. He said Doncic has always been all in for the game, and that people sometimes miss the hard work he does all year round.
With the 2025-26 NBA season soon, many are watching his first year with the Lakers closely. The scout told ‘Sportskeeda‘ that his better shape might put him in the lead for MVP and league’s top scorer.
For Doncic, this next season is more than just about going for a title. If the scout is right, it is also his chance to send a strong message back to Dallas , based on how well he plays, not just empty talks.
