The automatic translations of social networks sometimes fail and leave us with moments as curious as they are funny. This is what happened to Vinicius Jr, who when congratulating his girlfriend, Virginia Fonseca, on her birthday left us with a viral moment that has spread like wildfire on social networks.
The Real Madrid striker wanted to dedicate a nice congratulatory message in Portuguese, full of affection and praise. But the problem came with an expression that means something completely different from what Instagram translated: “Você e foda“. The platform literally turned it into “You’re a piece of shit“, when in Portuguese it means “You’re amazing“.
Although Vinicius has already edited the message to correct the translation, influencer Javi Hoyos had already captured the moment and published a video on his Instagram with the original text, showing the funny misunderstanding.
This was Vinicius’ congratulatory message

Machine translations play tricks
This is not the first time that automatic translations have generated viral confusion. Such errors are a reminder of how tricky it can be to rely on artificial intelligence to interpret colloquial expressions or colloquialisms from other languages.
In this case, although Vinicius Jr‘s message was initially mistranslated, his affection was clear: praise, gratitude and love for his partner, who was finally able to receive his words as the footballer had intended to express them.
