It didn’t take long for the rest of the NBA to move on from the Finals. The Oklahoma City Thunder could barely bask in their glory before the league turned the page to the new season, with big trades and signings already taking place. While NBA free agency isn’t quite what it used to be, there are still high-profile players on the move, and others with murky futures.

LeBron James certainly qualifies for that second category. What at one point never really seemed like an option has now become a distinct possibility. James’ time with the Los Angeles Lakers could very well be ending. While there’s still hope on the front office’s part that they can convince him to stay by building a championship winning roster, the 40-year-old doesn’t seem completely sold on that idea.

Lakers insider says LA’s relationship with LeBron James is “not in the best place”

Jovan Buha, who has covered the Lakers for a while now, recently revealed some personal sentiments about what James’ status is with the Lakers at this point in time. Lakers fans may want to cover their ears, as Buha doesn’t feel too optimistic about his future in Los Angeles.

I mean, I want to be careful with what I say about Bron’s relationship with the front office or the organization, but I don’t think it’s in the best place right now, to be completely honest. As you know, there’s been no official statement about LeBron opting in. There typically is-especially for a player of that magnitude… I don’t think things are in the best place they’ve ever been. I’ll just say that.

Whilt it may seem like a minor detail, it definitely feels like their relationship is on thin ice at the moment. James needs assurances that the roster will be capable of competing at the highest level. James doesn’t have many years left and he wants to maximize his chances to get a fifth ring before his career is over.
