As LeBron James prepares for his 23rd season in the NBA, it will mark a truly special moment for “King James“. When he began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James sported the No. 23 jersey in honor of his idol, Michael Jordan. While he wore No. 6 for a brief period, No. 23 has always been near and dear to his heart.
That’s why this upcoming season will be so important for the Los Angeles Lakers star. Given how special it may be, James knew the importance of working with Nike to create the perfect next signature shoe in his iconic line. The Lebron XXIII was unveiled a couple of weeks ago, debuting in an “Uncharted” colorway, which is the first in a long string of 23 different colorways that are set to drop over the coming months.
LeBron James wanted the “next greatest thing” from Nike for LeBron XXIII
While James has always been somewhat involved in the process behind his signature shoes, this time around it was different. On Thursday, Nike shared a glimpse into the creative process that the design team went through ahead of the unveiling of the LeBron XXIII. Before it all came to fruition, James made sure to let the designers know that he wanted “the next greatest thing”.
James and the design team knew that “year 23 needs to be epic“. And it seems like Nike came through with exactly what he wanted.
The “Forever King” mantra played a vital role in the creative process and final product. The new shoe will feature a full-length ZoomX drop-in midsole for the first time in the line’s history. It will also feature a brand new “Crown Containment System” for better lockdown on the court.
The Uncharted colorway for the shoe is scheduled to launch on September 25 in China and October 3 worldwide.
