ALos Angeles Lakers fan who briefly took legal action against LeBron James has officially dropped his lawsuit, ending a bizarre week-long saga that started with an online teaser and ended with free game tickets.
According to court filings reviewed by TMZ Sports, Andrew Garcia submitted paperwork on Monday in Los Angeles County to dismiss his small claims case against the NBA superstar.
Earlier this month, Garcia accused James of misleading fans into believing he was about to retire, prompting him to spend hundreds of dollars on what he thought could be the final opportunity to see the basketball legend play.
Garcia said his excitement began on October 7, when LeBron shared a cryptic social media post promising a major announcement.
Many fans speculated that the four-time NBA champion might be revealing his retirement plans or hinting at the final chapter of his career. Acting quickly, Garcia logged onto Ticketmaster and purchased two tickets to the March 31, 2026, game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers, paying $432.83 each.
When James finally made his “big” announcement, it turned out to be a promotional reveal for an alcoholic beverage.
Feeling deceived, Garcia said the tickets “lost almost all of their value” and filed a lawsuit demanding $865.66 in compensation, claiming LeBron was responsible for “fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and any and all basis of legal recovery.”
PrizePicks steps in
But just days after the lawsuit made headlines, Garcia‘s story took an unexpected turn. A representative from PrizePicks, a daily fantasy sports platform, reached out to him directly.
Garcia said the company wanted to “make things right” after hearing his situation, offering him free Lakers tickets and merchandise as a gesture of goodwill.
After accepting the offer, Garcia filed to dismiss his case on October 21, effectively closing the brief dispute. The gesture from PrizePicks ended the matter quietly and without any response from LeBron James or his representatives.
