LaVar Ball is once again making headlines, this time not for his outspoken personality or sports business ventures, but for a personal milestone in his ongoing health journey.

The 57-year-old Big Baller Brand founder proudly showed off his new prosthetic leg this week following an amputation earlier this year, marking an important step in his recovery after a life-threatening infection.

Ball revealed that doctors were forced to remove his limb due to complications brought on by diabetes. The surgery ended a long battle that included multiple hospital visits and procedures, but rather than retreat, Ball has emerged with his characteristic bravado and optimism.

During a visit to Hanger Clinic in Southern California, where he was fitted for the prosthetic, he expressed gratitude to the medical team while celebrating his return to mobility.

“I’m back, baby! Hanger, I love y’all to death and the staff you guys got. Keep doin’ ya thing, ’cause Big Baller’s back to strollin’,” he declared according to TMZ.

“I’m walking now, baby. I tell you – I didn’t think I was gonna walk this fast, but I see I am now.”

Sons provide strength through setbacks

Ball, who has always projected toughness, admitted earlier this year that the ordeal tested him in ways he never anticipated.

In a candid conversation with SLAM Magazine back in March, he confessed there were moments when he considered giving up after enduring repeated blood transfusions and surgeries.

“I’m the Big Baller. I’m hard to kill,” he said at the time. “But I must admit that my boys kept me rolling. ‘Cause a couple of times, I was like, ‘I can’t do no more blood transfusions. I can’t do no more operations. I’m just ready to shut it down. It’s enough for me.’ But I’m here for a bigger purpose.”

His three sons, NBA stars LaMelo and Lonzo, along with LiAngelo, who has pursued both basketball and music, rallied around their father throughout his health scare. Ball has repeatedly credited their encouragement as the key reason he pushed through some of the darkest moments.

A new chapter for LaVar Ball

The unveiling of his prosthetic leg was more than a medical update; it was a statement of resilience from a man who has long thrived on defying expectations. Supporters online praised his determination and drew inspiration from the milestone. For Ball, who built a brand around the mantra of confidence and persistence, this recovery is being framed as another example of his refusal to back down.

Rehabilitation will remain an ongoing process, as patients adjusting to prosthetics often face months of physical therapy and constant adaptation. Still, Ball appeared energized during his clinic visit, moving with assistance and proudly demonstrating the new device.

For him, the prosthetic represents not just restored mobility, but also a symbol of perseverance in the face of a major health setback.
