The mandatory mini-camps for the NFL have begun and it is the turn of the American League champions Kansas City Chiefs, who finished the voluntary part of the training program on Friday, June 13, where the players completed a third week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) at the Las Vegas Raiders’ facility.
During this session, head coach Andy Reid praised the good work of his players.
There has been good participation. The guys are working hard. I appreciate the improvement they are making, especially the young guys who are overcoming these difficulties. It’s good preparation for them as they get ready for training camp.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, an enviable duo with the Kansas City Chiefs
Without a doubt, the great stars of the scarlet team are star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, who must put aside the defeat in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles and concentrate on a new campaign. The Chiefs were looking for their third consecutive Super Bowl and to do so they will give a leading role to Trent McDuffie, who has returned to lead the defensive zone, one of the weak points that needs to be urgently reinforced. They also secured the return of wide receiver Rashee Rice, with the obligation to boost the aerial offense.
In OTA activities, Mahomes completed 9 of 9 passes during a team period, which included completions to Rice (3), wide receiver Skyy Moore (2), running back Elijah Mitchell (1), wide receiver Xavier Worthy (1), tight end Noah Gray (1) and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton (1). Any doubts about Pat’s health? Not at all! the injuries are behind him and the QB is ready to rack up yards, touchdowns and wins for the team.
Meanwhile, Travis Kelce, who is in the “pink press” and ironically his partner, singer Taylor Swift, appears more in the sports media, has been shown to be in perfect physical condition. His medical staff has mentioned that he has lost 21 pounds, which has allowed the offensive player to return with more strength and speed.
The “young Chiefs” who will debut with Kansas City
This week, the Chiefs signed a new prospect at tight end, Kevin Foelsch, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds. He has yet to play a professional game and spent most of last season on the Eagles’ practice squad. Consequently, the Chiefs released defensive tackle Siaki Ika.
During last week’s OTA sessions, running back Brashard Smith also stood out. Although it is not his rookie year, he managed to complete a deep pass down the sideline during 7-on-7 drills. It was a great pass from Patrick Mahomes, who connected with Smith on the move. Undoubtedly, a pleasant surprise for Andy Reid and company who can take advantage of the ground dominance and open an air option with Brashard Smith.
