No one is quite sure who the New York Giants starting quarterback will be once Week 1 rolls around. It sounds like Russell Wilson is the leader in the clubhouse, but Jameis Winston has found plenty of success at his previous NFL stops, so it remains a competition. Then there’s Jaxson Dart, the first round rookie who head coach Brian Daboll would love to have sit and learn behind the veterans.

But if Wilson and Winston don’t show enough in practice and preseason, could Dart be the guy? It’s possible. Regardless, whoever is at quarterback will need more from the team’s wide receivers than Daboll got last year. Malik Nabers is the alpha, but behind him are role playing veterans. There’s room for someone to step up, and it may be Jalin Hyatt.

Jalin Hyatt gains 25 pounds in order to save his NFL career

Hyatt recently revealed that he has completely transformed his body. He says he’s put on about 25 pounds in order to try to jumpstart his career, which has yet to take off at all. The slow start, particularly a poor 2024, affected him mentally.

I played at like 170, 171 last year, I’m about 194, 195 now. I’m telling you, that’s what darkness does to you. It changes you. I felt like that was one of the things that I needed to work on from last season, just felt weak. So I just had to get stronger..”

Hyatt was drafted with the 73rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. A speed demon at Tennessee, Hyatt was electric in his final season with the Volunteers, putting together a 67/1,267/15 season. He fell to the third round due to his skinny frame, and for now it seems like other teams were correct in their pre-draft evaluation of him.

But no wide receiver puts up a monster season in the SEC without legit talent. Hyatt has it, and he now may be playing at a weight that suits him. With just 31 receptions and 435 yards to his name through two NFL seasons, it’s hard to trust he will turn it around. But if he does, it could coincide with Dart’s ascension as the team’s quarterback. Alongside Nabers, those three could be an intriguing trio going forward.
