Jake Paul is once again in the spotlight with a new proposal to face the undefeated Gervonta “Tank” Davis. While preparing for his June 28 fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the American revealed that he is in talks to stage an exhibition fight against the lightweight champion, under conditions that have generated debate in the boxing world.

During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Paul explained that the idea came after the draw between Davis and Lamont Roach in March. Although the fight has not been finalized, the content creator confirmed that it was a real option. “I mean, that was also a step away, but he has to do the rematch against Lamont Roach. He wants to get that back and then we’ll talk to Mr. Gervonta again,” Paul said.

A difference in weight and unsanctioned rules

The most striking detail of this proposal is the agreed weight. Paul, who competes in divisions close to cruiserweight, proposed a 195-pound limit for a 10-round, three-minute fight. “It would be an exhibition. No restrictions, just that we couldn’t get it sanctioned professionally,” he said. The weight difference between the two is more than 25 kilos, which has raised questions about the feasibility and fairness of the possible matchup.

Although the fight would not be officially recognized in professional boxing records, Paul believes the spectacle could be just as relevant to fans. “It’s a fight where the fans will win, and it will be the biggest event of the year,” he said.

On the way to Chavez Jr. and with an eye on top figures

While this possible fight with Gervonta Davis is still under discussion, Jake Paul is focusing on his next official fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Paul continues to explore high-profile matchups, having previously mentioned his interest in boxers such as Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua.

The content creator has been one of the most watched figures in boxing in recent years. His fight against Mike Tyson was watched by more than 100 million people, consolidating his media presence, regardless of the nature of his fights.
