Jake Paul, once known for his YouTube pranks and viral stunts, has punched his way into the boxing spotlight. His latest triumph occurred on the past weekend when he defeated former middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Paul’s relentless effort over 10 rounds earned him a unanimous decision (99-91, 98-92, 97-93), bringing his professional record to an impressive 12-1 with seven knockouts.

For Paul, a man who thrives on opportunity and discipline, this win is his biggest yet. Chávez Jr., who is 39 years old, is 11 years older than Paul and a shadow of his father’s legacy, having participated in only two fights in the last three years. Nevertheless, beating a name like that has brought Paul closer to his dream of becoming a world champion.

Jake Paul From YouTube to Title Contender

The World Boxing Association (WBA) quickly rewarded Paul for his victory. They ranked him 14th in the cruiserweight division, opening the door for him to compete for the WBA cruiserweight title, which is currently held by Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez. Ramirez defended his belt the same night with a win over Yuniel Dorticos and now looms as a potential foe.

Paul’s ranking puts him just ahead of Craig Parker, an undefeated American with a record of 20-0 (20 KOs), who has been testing the waters of the heavyweight division, and just behind Giovanni Cristian Scuderi of Italy (12-0, 5 KOs), who has also been competing among the heavyweights lately.

Before the Chávez Jr. fight, WBA President Gilberto Mendoza hinted that a win would land Paul in the top 15 – and he delivered. Paul dominated the aging Chavez Jr., who appeared exhausted, proving he’s ready for tougher challenges-or at least that’s what he’s telling the world.

What’s Next: A Title Fight and a Big Payday?

“I want tougher fighters. I want to be a world champion,” said Paul after his win. At 28 years old, he’s in his prime and has the discipline to back it up. His WBA ranking puts him in the running to face Ramirez or another willing champion. Whoever steps up to fight Paul for a title is guaranteed a hefty paycheck thanks to his massive popularity. But not everyone’s sold on his résumé.

Critics point out that his 13 opponents averaged 39 years of age-guys like Mike Tyson (who was 58 when they fought), Ryan Bourland (who had fought only once in five years), and Andre August (who had fought only once in four years). Chávez Jr. fits the mold too, with just one bout in over three years. Nevertheless, Paul’s 12-1 record and seven knockouts show that he’s a formidable opponent. Will Ramirez take the bait? Or will another contender chase the fame and fortune? Either way, Paul’s next fight could be a game-changer-for better or worse.
