The Kansas City Chiefs are going through an unexpectedly rough start to the season. For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the team has fallen to a worrying 0-2 after a 20-17 loss in a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles. A result that sparked frustration both on and off the field.

Head coach Andy Reid took full responsibility for the defeat, acknowledging that the offense made too many mental mistakes. “I’ll take full responsibility for that game. I probably stayed too aggressive on offense, but against a team like Philadelphia you have to,”Reid said.

Chiefs under fire for social media post

Beyond the result, what truly ignited the controversy was the team’s official reaction. On their X account, the Chiefs shared “five takeaways” from the game, highlighting their defensive strength despite the loss.

The post emphasized that Kansas City had limited Philadelphia to just 216 total yards, only 3.7 yards per play, and their lowest offensive output since 2021. However, for fans, talking about positive stats after another defeat was the last straw.

Chiefs face backlash from fans

The responses came quickly. Dozens of fans called the post “embarrassing,” accusing the team of trying to sugarcoat the poor start to the season.

“You’re still posting about this? It’s becoming embarrassing. The Chiefs’ mystique is completely gone,” one follower wrote. Another added sarcastically, “Do you want a gold star sticker?”

This unrest on social media reflects the frustration of a fanbase used to winning, now watching their team look vulnerable.

Mahomes remains confident in the Chiefs

Despite the media storm, Mahomes sent a message of calm and confidence in the locker room. “It’s not how we wanted to start, but what matters is how we respond. I know it sucks for the fans, but I feel like we’re close. All we can do is keep working,” the quarterback said.

With a 0-2 start casting doubt on their status as favorites, the Chiefs will have a chance to turn things around on September 21 against the New York Giants. The matchup will be crucial: the loser will fall to a troubling 0-3, a tough hole to climb out of in an NFL season.
