Luka Doncic‘s physical condition has once again been one of the most talked about topics in the NBA lately. The Slovenian has always been under the spotlight for his weight but, this time, the conversation has a different nuance.

Although he has arrived at the Lakers with more kilos on the scale (110.6 compared to 104.3 the previous season), he looks more defined, faster and more resilient than ever. In fact, on the cover of Men’s Health, he has been seen with a much more worked physique, able to sustain a high pace on the court and with very promising qualities.

More weight but better shape

This difference is key. Gaining muscle mass means more strength, greater stability and extra endurance. In Doncic’s case, gym work and specific physical preparation have transformed his body into a more competitive tool

His performances in the Eurobasket proved it, as he had a faster game, greater mobility and the ability to maintain intensity throughout the game, being one of the most decisive players in the tournament.

Gain muscle without gaining fat

Doncic, the basketball player, is a clear example of how you can gain weight without losing definition or agility; on the contrary, gaining qualities in sport and everyday life

The key is to balance training and nutrition. Increasing muscle mass requires a calorie surplus, but it must be based on quality foods. Lean proteins to build tissue, complex carbohydrates to provide sustained energy and healthy fats to support hormonal functions

In addition, it should be accompanied by a well-structured strength plan with progressive loads, compound exercises and core work. This caloric surplus translates into muscle and not fat, which makes you better on the pitch

Another key factor is rest, as it is during sleep that much of the muscle repair and growth occurs. This approach allows for weight gain, but at the same time improves body composition, which explains why Doncic, who is heavier than before, looks leaner and better prepared to compete at the highest level.
