Indiana Fever has been struggling without Caitlin Clark. Injuries have gotten in the way of CC during her second year in the WNBA, causing her to appear in only 13 games this season, and she continues to be sidelined due to her groin injury.
Clark was joined by Sydney Colson, who tore her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and Aari McDonald with her broken right foot bone. All of this weighs heavily on the team and could jeopardize their place in the playoffs.
The Fever’s chances
In their last ten games, Indiana has suffered four losses, bringing their record to 18-16.
In addition, with the loss to the Washington Mystics, they dropped one spot in the WNBA standings, from sixth to seventh place. The Golden State Valkyries (18-15) took their place.
Meanwhile, the Seattle Storm (17-17) are one game behind Indiana and are eighth on the list. In addition, the Los Angeles Sparks (16-17) are ninth and only one and a half games behind them. For this reason, the Fever will have to work hard to avoid falling behind.
Competing for the last playoff spot will be tough, as only the top eight teams qualify, regardless of conference, and no one wants to be left out.
Fortunately, they are also just two wins behind the Las Vegas Aces (20-14), who are fifth in the rankings with six consecutive wins.
On the other hand, and more encouragingly, ESPN’s WNBA Basketball Power Index ranks them as strong contenders, with an 87.1% chance. However, they used to average 99.2%, and before the two consecutive losses to the Dallas Wings and Mystics, they were at 98%.
Now, the Indiana Fever are preparing to improve their numbers and face the Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena this Sunday, August 17.
