The boxing community is mourning the death of rising American fighter Hannah Rapp, who died at just 26 years old following a tragic incident in Texas that authorities say involved an alleged road rage encounter.
Rapp, who challenged for the WBC women’s featherweight championship just weeks before her death, was killed while riding her bicycle near College Station on Saturday morning.
According to investigators, the circumstances surrounding the collision have led to criminal charges against the driver involved.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office said Rapp was struck after a vehicle allegedly passed two cyclists before stopping and reversing. Authorities allege the driver backed into Rapp, causing fatal injuries.
Police arrested Charles Medina, 31, in connection with the incident. He has been charged with manslaughter and was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center while the investigation continues.
Law enforcement officials have not indicated that Rapp died from a medical condition or boxing-related injuries. Instead, investigators say her death resulted from the injuries she sustained after being struck by the vehicle during the alleged road rage incident.
The tragedy has shocked both the boxing world and the Texas community where Rapp lived and trained.
Originally from Yorktown, Indiana, Rapp excelled as a track athlete before discovering boxing. She competed for Purdue University in track and field before relocating to Texas, where she balanced a demanding professional career with her rapid rise in the sport.
While pursuing boxing, Rapp also worked full time as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University, demonstrating a commitment both inside and outside the ring.

“When she asked for my autograph, it filled my heart because we were getting ready for war, yet she was still asking for my autograph. It made me smile, we fought a GREAT fight for the fans from the 1st bell to the last! It was my honor to share the ring with her.”
World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaimán also honored the young fighter’s legacy.
“The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken. She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family,” Sulaimán said.
He added: “We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career.”
Although Rapp’s professional career lasted only a short time, she had already established herself as one of the sport’s promising young athletes.
Her journey from collegiate track athlete to world-title challenger reflected years of dedication and perseverance.
