Jaxson Dart’s injury leaves the New York Giants in a troubling situation with only two weeks of the NFL season completed. And that is where the name Joe Milton III enters the conversation, as the quarterback is currently part of the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.
During Week 1, Dallas struggled against Dart, who dominated with his ability to combine his rushing and passing skills in the Giants’ victory. The young quarterback appeared ready to take a major step forward in his second NFL season, but his outlook changed completely Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart suffered a knee injury after taking a hard hit in the first quarter and was forced to leave the game. Although there was initial optimism surrounding his condition, further testing revealed a much more concerning situation.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants and Dart are now facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery.

Of all the QB injuries suffered in Week 2, Dart’s is turning out to easily be the most significant.”
Dart’s potential absence would be a major blow for a franchise that had invested in him as the future of the quarterback position and now must find an immediate solution to remain competitive in the NFC East.
Joe Milton III, an increasingly attractive option
The wave of quarterback injuries across the NFL during Week 2 has forced several teams to explore alternatives, and the name Joe Milton III is beginning to emerge as an intriguing option.
The Dallas Cowboys selected Sam Howell as Dak Prescott’s backup after a competitive battle during training camp and the preseason, but they decided to keep Milton within the organization by placing him on the practice squad.
That situation creates an opportunity for the New York Giants, as they would not need to negotiate a trade to acquire him. The team would only need to sign Milton to its 53-man roster, although Dallas would lose the quarterback without receiving any compensation.
