The league’s new signings and trades have left the NBA Finals behind, where the Oklahoma City Thunder barely had time to enjoy their glory before the spotlight shifted elsewhere.
And in the midst of it all, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his situation with the Milwaukee Bucks have emerged. The power forward has a contract for two more seasons with the team and could use his player option for 2027 and 2028. Despite this, his fame allows him to force his way out of the team if he wants to and request a transfer.
The secrecy surrounding his future has kept fans and the press in suspense. Without going any further, he has recently been linked to major franchises in the league, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and even the New York Knicks and Miami Heat.
However, the 30-year-old star has spoken about his future, and he did so not to the press, but to a well-known internet personality and streamer.
Giannis’ words about his future
On IShowSpeed’s live stream from Greece, the American content creator talked to Antetokounmpo about the difference in taxes between Los Angeles and New York. “A lot of people try to convince me to go and play there and stuff,” Giannis joked.
However, these words did not go unnoticed and took the streamer by surprise. As a result, he asked him if he wanted to stay in Milwaukee. And the answer was:
Probably. We’ll see. I love Milwaukee.
In addition to Giannis’ statements, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported in June that “There is currently no trade market for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo because he has not requested [a trade] and the Bucks are not looking to trade him.“
This ambiguous response leaves the door open to a possible departure in the future and raises a big question, because even though he affirmed his intentions to stay with the team, the fact that he did not confirm it 100% leaves fans uneasy. Will he continue to wear the Bucks’ colors?
