The Genesis Scottish Open has arrived with one of the strongest fields of the summer, and the expert picks reflect just how difficult this week’s tournament could be to call.
Scottie Scheffler enters as the betting favorite at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, where players are getting one final links-style test before the Open Championship.
Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Matt Fitzpatrick are also near the top of the market, while defending champion Chris Gotterup brings added intrigue after winning the John Deere Classic last week.
As per CBS Sports, Scheffler was listed at +600 in FanDuel odds, followed by McIlroy at +1000, Rahm at +1600 and Fitzpatrick at +1800.
That makes Scheffler the obvious favorite on price. But not every expert is leaning toward the shortest odds.
Expert picks for the Scottish Open
Golf.com’s Brady Kannon pointed toward Ludvig Aberg at 22-1 as one of his four preferred plays this week.
The reasoning is built around Aberg’s combination of distance and accuracy off the tee, which can be especially valuable at The Renaissance Club. Kannon also noted that Aberg has already finished eighth and fourth at this venue, giving him proven comfort in North Berwick.
Aberg isn’t alone among the value names. Kannon also highlighted Nicolai Hojgaard at 45-1, Kristoffer Reitan at 53-1 and Kevin Yu at 225-1.
Hojgaard’s case is tied to strong driving and previous Scottish Open results, including fourth and sixth place finishes. Reitan brings momentum from a strong season and a 13th place finish in Scotland last year, while Yu is the longshot swing after showing encouraging form at the John Deere Classic.
Expert picks for the Scottish Open
CBS Sports’ model took a different angle by flagging Wyndham Clark as a value option at +2700.
Clark has been in excellent form, with CBS noting he hadn’t finished worse than T11 in his previous five starts. His Scottish Open record also helps the case, with no finish worse than T25 in four prior appearances.
The same CBS model was less enthusiastic about Rahm despite his status as the third favorite, calling him a fade relative to his odds. That doesn’t mean Rahm cannot win.
It does suggest experts are looking beyond reputation, especially on a course where links-adjacent conditions, weather and approach play can quickly punish big names.
Scheffler remains the safest market favorite, McIlroy has obvious course and links pedigree, and Fitzpatrick fits the profile of a player comfortable in these conditions.
Still, the more interesting expert consensus sits slightly further down the board.
